Dr. Daren Heyland

Dr. Daren Heyland is a Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology at Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario Canada. He is trained in Internal Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, and Clinical Epidemiology. He works as a staff physician in the ICU at the Kingston General Hospital and is the Director of Research for the Critical Care Programme.

Dr. Heyland has a variety of research interests which include 3 Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) funded programs of research and has conducted multicenter trials in the areas of nutrition, infection, and end of life care.  He is currently the Principal Investigator of the REDOXS© Study, a multicenter trial of 1200 critically ill patients randomized to receive glutamine and/or antioxidant (or placebo) supplementation funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.

Overall, Dr. Heyland has published approximately 200 peer-reviewed papers, raised more than $72 million in external grant support including more than $32 million from CIHR, and given more than 200 international presentations.
