Cultural Safety and Primary Care

Cultural safety and primary care can go hand in hand by establishing an enduring element of trust between patients and their health care providers.  Along with trust, it is important to ensure that Indigenous ways of knowing and being are respected and included as critically important health care supports.  An additional consideration to respect cultural safety is to respect the language of each individual, communicating in a way that each patient can feel comfortable, heard, and understood, in a language of their choice, which may not be English, as many cultures that communicate in a variety of different languages.
